JetBlue Wins Spirit’s LaGuardia Slots for $58.5 Million — Below Spirit’s Own Estimate

JetBlue has won Spirit Airlines’ slots at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, giving the carrier more capacity at a highly constrained and expensive airport.
The carrier had made a bid of $58.5 million for Spirit’s LGA slots, according to a U.S. Bankruptcy Court filing. Frontier Airlines had bid $57.5 million for the slots. The Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of New York will host a hearing on Wednesday to approve JetBlue’s bid.
JetBlue will receive 22 slots at LaGuardia’s Marine Air Terminal, an Art Deco facility where Spirit operated.
