Malaysia Airlines will fly daily to Brisbane from October using the A330neo

Malaysia Airlines will switch to daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Brisbane from October 25, 2026, up from six weekly flights as part of a wider capacity increase on its Asia-Pacific network announced this week.

The airline’s parent company Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) at a briefing in Kuala Lumpur on September 4 confirmed the increase along with additional capacity in Fukuoka and Surabaya, as well as the return of Kuala Lumpur-Busan flights after almost three decades.

MAG Group President and CEO Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar said the increase in Brisbane services would be accompanied by the airline’s Airbus A330neo being deployed on the route, replacing older equipment on the corridor.

“We continue to grow with purpose, strengthening our network where there is demand, reconnecting existing markets and expanding into new ones, while investing in capabilities that support our airlines and customers,” Nasaruddin said.

The Brisbane capacity increase is part of a wider capacity increase on MAG’s three existing routes. Fukuoka is moving from five weekly flights to daily from December 1, building on the route’s resumption in September after a 20-year hiatus – with Malaysia Airlines remaining the only carrier operating non-stop flights from Kuala Lumpur to Fukuoka. From November 1, Surabaya will receive two additional frequencies per week, increasing the number of flights from 14 to 16 per week.

Brisbane has been gradually moving to daily service since Malaysia Airlines reintroduced the route in late 2025, increasing flights from five to six per week earlier this year before finally increasing to daily from October.

The changes come alongside MAG’s confirmation that Malaysia Airlines will resume flights to Busan from 2 December 2026, flying four times a week on Boeing 737-8 aircraft, and that Firefly will launch its first-ever China route to Kunming, dates for which have yet to be confirmed. MAG also announced the construction of a new in-flight catering facility near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, which is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2028 and will produce approximately 50,000 meals per day.
