Phones have gradually moved from running a single AI function to manipulating entire AI agents that plan, reason, and act on your behalf. This shift requires serious effort, and Arm believes it has cracked the formula with its recently announced CSS platform for Mobile 2. What’s new in the graphics department? The headline here is the Mali G2-Ultra NX, and Arm calls it the most advanced mobile GPU yet. What sets it apart is that it is the first Mali GPU to feature dedicated neural accelerators alongside the traditional graphics pipeline. Instead of AI and graphics running on different paths, they now share the same path, which Arm says delivers up to 4 times better performance per watt for neural graphics tasks. Hand Even without artificial intelligence, Arm claims a 14% increase in performance for existing games compared to the previous generation. Game studios are already testing the waters, with companies like Tencent, Unity China, NetEase and Infold Games building support for Arm’s neural graphics technology into their games. How does the CPU keep up with AI agents? Graphics are only half the battle. Running an AI agent means constantly manipulating context, scheduling tasks, and coordinating between applications and models, and this work falls to the CPU. Arm’s new C2 processor cluster combines the fastest C2-Ultra chip with efficiency-focused C2-Pro cores and duplicates SME2 units for local processing of AI workloads. The numbers Arm shares are compelling: 1.7x faster AI performance and 15% faster single-thread speed than the previous C1-Ultra, while using 38% less power for the same performance. This is a significant benefit if you want your phone’s assistant to work quickly without draining your battery by lunchtime. Arm is also introducing developer tools like the new AI Portal so app makers can make good use of all this new hardware instead of leaving it unused in the spec. When you put it all together, Mobile 2’s CSS feels less like a spec upgrade and more like Arm laying the groundwork for phones that can actually keep up with the AI agents everyone keeps promising us.
