National Geographic tests 26 travel cameras – APS-C and Fujifilm come out on top – Fuji rumors

The best cameras for travel

National Geographic tested 26 cameras and selected 12 that they found to be ideal for travel photography.

And of those 12, five Fujifilm cameras were recommended by National Geographic magazine.

Fujifilm (and APS-C) is king

What we notice:

• Fujifilm is the most represented brand with 4 out of 12 cameras.
• APS-C is the most common sensor size – 5 of the 12 cameras.

APS-C is generally considered the most balanced system, and also won the best overall category with the X-E5 and X-T50 thanks to its top-notch image quality, size, lens selection, and good durability for the price.

This is not surprising: PetaPixel, DPreview, and Bill Cluff of Photons to Photos have long argued that APS-C is the best option.

And it’s not just National Geographic: CNN also tested 15 travel cameras, and this Fujifilm model won the battle, as we reported here.

The unspoken advantages of Fujifilm

So yes, APS-C can provide superior image quality in a perfectly balanced system, making it ideal for travel.

But there are also some software features that make Fujifilm the best choice for me.

Features that allow me to significantly reduce my editing time and that other brands such as Sony do not offer.

I know what you’re thinking: it’s Fujifilm colors and recipes you can create right in the camera.

And of course, this is one of the reasons. And it’s not just me who says this. We reported on sports photographer Andrea Cimini who, after years of using Fujifilm, switched to Sony for better autofocus because the 2024 firmware broke autofocus on his Fujifilm cameras. He said that now, since he has to deal with Sony colors, it takes him twice as long to edit the files. And he is certainly not biased.

But the colors are just one of the reasons why I prefer Fujifilm to any other brand in the software space.

There are other features that ensure that when I get home from a trip or camping trip, I don’t have to spend hours editing images on the computer.
