Connecticut gas prices are among the highest in the country for Labor Day travel

NORTH HAVEN, CT (WFSB) – Gasoline prices reached their most expensive Labor Day levels in U.S. history, with the national average of $4.15 per gallon, surpassing the previous record.

Prices are higher in Connecticut. The state average is $4.33 per gallon, the highest in New England and higher than New Jersey and New York.

Prices rose after the US and Israel attacked Iran in February and have not stabilized since. The United States and Iran exchanged a new round of military strikes over the weekend, causing further instability around the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of the world’s oil supplies flow. That made travel more expensive for people heading home on Labor Day.

Several gas stations in Connecticut sell gas for less than $4 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. All are located in New Haven County. The cheapest price currently is $3.89. It can be found at Petrex in Meriden and Xpress Fuel in East Haven.
