iPhone only: To lease an iPhone, you must select an eligible carrier (but you cannot use a prepaid carrier plan). A rented iPhone is always unlocked, so you can change carriers at any time, subject to your carrier’s terms and conditions.

Termination of Apple upgrade lease agreement. Closing the lease agreement and returning the device terminates the lease agreement. If you terminate your lease before the end of the original lease term, you may be charged a significant fee, up to the amount of your remaining lease payments. You may be able to upgrade to a new device by entering into a new lease and returning your previous device. If you upgrade, your new monthly payments may be higher than your previous monthly payments. If you do not renew, terminate your lease, or purchase a device by the end of your initial lease term, your lease will be converted to a month-to-month lease for up to six months. Your monthly payments may increase from month to month. If you take no action at the end of the renewal period, you will be charged the amount due to exercise your option to purchase under your lease. You will not own your device at the end of the lease unless you pay the amount due to exercise the purchase option. Insurance is not included in the rental agreement, and you may incur costs for damage if the device is lost, stolen, or not returned in the condition required by the rental agreement.
