Sansho: your new go-to Modern Asian flavors in Greenbelt – Awesome! – Our Awesome Planet

Sansho, from its name alone, evokes a citrusy, chili, umami invitation for foodies who love the comforting flavors of Asian cuisine. Amid the sea of commercialized establishments and franchised concepts in Greenbelt, this homegrown Japanese-Asian casual dining restaurant offers something unique and comforting, making your Greenbelt visit worthwhile. We dined here with the family on a Sunday lunch, and the kids finished every bit of the noodles and dishes, dashed with sansho and mala peppers, plus the addicting Sansho all-purpose sauce.
about

Sansho is inspired by the green sansho peppercorn, known for its citrusy, zesty flavor and signature tingling finish that leaves an electric sensation on the tongue. Like its namesake, Sansho offers a vibrant journey into the warmth of Asian food and culture, where every experience is bold, memorable, and deeply rooted in tradition.

Grab a seat at the counter for your Sansho fix, dine in a booth with your barkada, or gather around the long table with the family.

The booth was cozy and perfect for our family of six. Its comfortable design sets the mood for a good meal.

Nakaka-addict ang mga condiments—sansho citrus peppercorns, mala chili, and their sweet Sansho all-purpose sauce.
favorites

This curry was the family’s favorite and something we’d definitely come back to Sansho for.

Lychee Red Curry Chicken (₱880 sharing)
chicken drenched in rich red curry balanced by the tropical flavor of lychee
The bright yellow curry is coconut-rich with a rounded sweetness from lychee, and it’s a must to squeeze lime over the sauce to unlock its sweet, citrusy, addictive taste. The chicken feels like an excuse, and we enjoyed the sauce as a soup or poured over white rice.

Truffle Mushroom Fried Rice (₱480 sharing)
Why not add truffle to fried rice, with bits of mushrooms for that umami boost? The fam loved this!

PBB Noods (₱595 sharing)
pork peanut butter noodles
I was skeptical about the noodles at first, but I loved how the bouncy noodles were coated in peanut butter and finished with a dash of sansho—or, for the kids, with Sansho AP sauce and mala spice.

SS Noods (₱520 sharing)
noodles dressed in butter, garlic, Sansho and salt
These noodles are also good, with a creamy butter sauce, garlic crunch, and finished with sansho peppers and mala spice.

Crispy Prawn Balls (₱395)
Crispy prawn balls tossed in our tangy sweet chill glaze – get ready to crunch!
Big prawn balls are served with crisp fried flat strands on a bed of mayo sauce at the bottom. Squeeze the lime, and it’s perfect.

Bang Bang Shrimps (₱780 sharing)
seriously addictive! crunchy shrimp popcorn tossed in a with spicy, chili-garlicky seasoning
A good appetizer—crunchy, not oily, and goes well with rice, with just the right spicy chili-garlic flavor. The kids love this.

Plum and Pepper Spareribs (₱650 sharing)
your go-to spareribs glazed in plum sauce and dusted with red kiamoy powder.
Eto masarap rin. The spareribs are tender and have a sweet plum glaze with red kiamoy powder to cut through the sweetness.

Salted Fish (Bisugo) Fried Rice (₱450 sharing)
Salted fish fried rice is always good and our go-to fried rice for Chinese cravings and pairs well with the spare ribs.

Shredded Beef Rendang (₱450)
that layered aromatic rendang flavor in finely shredded beef.
This was underwhelming for us, but a lot of people rave about it. We like our rendang more coconut-creamy and spicy, but the kids liked it with the rice paper cracker as an appetizer.

Coconut Lime (₱520 sharing)
rich coconut broth balanced by the bright zest of fresh lime and herbs, mixed with hearty chicken balls.
I like the coconutty lime contrast and hearty, creamy broth. It’s a bit salty, maybe stored too long, and needs to be balanced.

Pomelo Salad in Thai Vinaigrette (₱320)
juicy pomelo and crisp greens finished with salted bisugo
The portion is noticeably small, but the sauce and pomelo citrusy sweetness are just right, contrasted with salted bisugo.

Sansho Smash (₱350/glass) / gin, lemon juice, cucumber, basil, mint
Spicy Kiamoy Tequila (₱390/glass) / tequila, lemon juice, yuzu kasha, pink guava juice, vanilla syrup
Spiced Old Fashioned (₱420/glass) / whiskey, star anise, angostura bitters
Love the spicy kiamoy tequila – goes well with the sansho flavor, and order a carafe of the Sansho Smash to cleanse the palate.

Mango Sago (₱190) / a refreshing blend of fresh mango, coconut milk and chewy mini sago pearls
Black Kopi (₱140 iced) / dark roast pour-over coffee with subtle fruit notes
Sweet Kopi (₱180 hot) / black kopi + sweet caramelized condensed milk
The mango sago was super creamy, and we requested ice to keep it cool and dilute its sweetness—perfect ending.
final thoughts

We love Sansho, and it’s perfect for a Sunday family dining after hearing Mass at Don Bosco Makati. What makes it work is the contrast of creamy sweetness with a citrusy spice kick and a balanced flavor that doesn’t taste overly sweet. Our favorites were the Lychee Red Curry Chicken, Truffle Mushroom Fried Rice, Plum and Pepper Spareribs, but the kids loved the noodles—PBB Noods and S.S. Noods—and the Bang Bang Shrimp.
As I write this, I still crave the sansho peppers, mala, and Sansho AP sauce condiments that go well with everything—noodles, fried rice, and more. Make sure to reserve the long dining table for a family weekend feast. Budget about ₱1,500 per head.
Let’s support homegrown food concepts, and congrats to Sansho for a well-developed concept!

Faking Duck Buns (₱360)
not really a duck. more of Char Siu served in a steam bun.
