Programmable physical controls are becoming key to power user workflows, including agent programming. Now Logitech is bringing to market a compact solution that fits on any desk. Logitech today announced the MX Keypad, a $99.99 accessory with nine customizable full-color LCD keys for launching commands, macros, and accessing AI tools. The MX Keypad is half the price of the Logitech MX Creative Console. If the equipment looks familiar, there’s a reason for it. The Logitech MX Creative Console combines an LCD keyboard with a separate dial pad for customizing settings and navigating creative apps. The MX Keypad offers a keyboard experience without an additional controller for half the Creative Console’s list price of $199.99. The new product puts developers and AI workflows front and center, although customization extends beyond coding apps. The Logi Options+ app allows you to customize the interface for yourself With the free Logi Options+ app, users can assign shortcuts, saved tooltips, scripts and macros to individual keys. Two page buttons provide access to 15 pages, and app-enabled profiles automatically switch layouts as you move between apps. This means that the same physical buttons can do different things in VS Code, Slack, Chrome, or another app. The Logi Marketplace provides plugins, profiles, and icon packs, and a built-in icon editor allows users to personalize the appearance of each key. You can use AI to program the AI keyboard. My initial hands-on test involved connecting the MX Keypad to my MacBook Air on my desk, then using Codex to program custom buttons in Logi Options+ based on how I use ChatGPT on the Mac. There’s something appropriate about asking an AI coding agent to set up the physical controls you’ll use when working with the AI. It also clarifies the appeal: placing tooltips and actions that you constantly refer to on dedicated buttons with labels. Logitech developed the MX Keypad in collaboration with GitHub. The product includes GitHub Copilot integration in VS Code, as well as three free months of Copilot Pro+ for both new and existing users, which can be activated through Logi Options+. Logitech also says community plugins for Claude Code and OpenAI Codex provide features such as agent status tracking and terminal control. Developers who want to take things a step further can create their own plugins using the Logi Actions SDK, which supports C# and Node.js. The keyboard connects via USB-C and requires macOS 13 or later or Windows 10 or later. It measures approximately 3.6 by 3.1 inches and weighs 96 grams, making it a small addition to your laptop or keyboard. The MX Keypad is available starting today, September 8th, in Graphite and Pale Gray for $99.99. FTC: We use automatic affiliate links that generate income. More.
