EastEnders confirms whether Max Branning will die after announcing character’s death

CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM TUESDAY’S EPISODE EastEnders fans have been wondering if Max Branning is leaving after something happened to him on his wedding day to Cindy Beale.

EastEnders feared Max Branning would die at the end of Tuesday’s episode.

Warning, this story contains spoilers from Tuesday’s episode, available now on BBC iPlayer! The character, played by actor Jake Wood, appeared to suffer a medical emergency, possibly due to a heart attack, on his wedding day to Cindy Beale.

But is Max leaving the show and is he dead? We have answers as a major clue reveals his fate and one star has confirmed the death of a specific character.

Max was no doubt under stress after Lynda Carter and Lauren Branning revealed his affair with Priya Nandra-Hart. So when Linda burst into the ceremony just as Max and Cindy were saying their vows, Max became worried.

However, Linda, Priya and Lauren remained silent and the ceremony took place. During a lavish wedding reception, Max was on edge and things took a different turn.

Spoilers teased chaos, but they didn’t reveal that Max might have to fight for his life. Preparing to make a speech, Max began to look around the room and remained silent.

As the guests began to wonder what was going on, Max began to breathe heavily. Suddenly he looked at Cindy and swayed a little, and he didn’t look good at all. Max then grabbed his chest and fell to the floor, looking in pain.

Struggling to breathe, Max appeared to lose consciousness as Cindy screamed and others, including Max’s brother Jack Branning, rose to their feet. Everyone looked panicked, but what happened to Max and will he die?

Spoiler alert, Max will survive. How do we know this? Because he’s in a flashback episode set in January 2027. So unless this turns out to be some sort of dream episode, Max is alive on New Year’s Day 2027.

Who won’t be alive then is Zoe Slater, who dies this week in the BBC soap. Tuesday’s episode seemed to confirm Zoe’s future cause of death, while spoilers may suggest there’s more to come.

Michelle Ryan, who plays Zoe, confirmed in an interview this week that she and bosses had agreed to her departure. She also said there was no bad blood with bosses over the decision to kill off Zoe, a year after her big comeback.

Zoey debuted in 2000 and left in 2005, returning 20 years later. Next week we’ll see Kat Slater find her daughter Zoe dead.
