Denver chaos: three United Airlines flight attendants fall ill

A United Airlines Airbus A321neo landed safely in Denver after three flight attendants became ill during the descent, prompting the flight crew to call medical personnel to meet the plane upon arrival.

The aircraft, registration N54561, was operating flight UA2803 from Chicago O’Hare to Denver when three flight attendants reported feeling unwell.

The remaining flight attendants in this sector were replaced by flight attendants who happened to be on board, allowing the flight to continue towards Denver without disrupting the service crew.

As the plane descended toward its destination, the flight crew radioed requesting that medical personnel treat the injured crew members once the plane reached the gate.

The pilots did not indicate what might have caused the illness and told Denver air traffic control only that assistance would be required upon arrival.

N54561 landed on Runway 16L at Denver International Airport without further incident and taxied to the apron where medical crews met the aircraft as requested.

The Airbus A321-271NX has manufacturer serial number 13022 and first flew on June 24, 2026 with test number F-WZKG during production at the Airbus Mobile final assembly line in Alabama.

The aircraft was delivered to United on June 30, 2026, under lease from CALC, and flown from Mobile to Tampa on July 2, 2026, before entering commercial service on July 12, 2026, making the aircraft only two months old at the time of the incident.

The aircraft has 200 seats in 20-seat first class and 180-seat economy class and is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW1133G-JM geared turbofan engines.

It operates in United’s fleet as 4561.

The plane continues to fly

Despite the drama surrounding the sick flight attendant, N54561 experienced no noticeable operational disruptions.

Records show that the aircraft departed Denver for its next scheduled sector on time, suggesting that engineers did not find anything on the airframe itself that required further investigation, and reinforcing the impression that the episode was related to the crew rather than the aircraft.
