How to have your say on updates to the Flintshire Active Tourism Map

The consultation on the ‘Flintshire Active Tourism Network Map (ATNM) Update’ began in August and will close on November 2 this year.

Flintshire Council said it wants to create “a network that makes walking, cycling and cycling the most natural and normal way to travel for local journeys”.

He also, the spokesman added, wants to “promote the health and well-being of everyone and make our towns and villages more livable.”

A council spokesman explained: “Under the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013, all local authorities in Wales are required to regularly review and improve their walking, cycling and cycle routes.

“Our current map was approved by Welsh Government in August 2022 and now is the time to reflect the changes and improvements made over the past three years.

“We are reviewing and developing the ATNM to include: existing routes (these are routes that meet Welsh Government standards for walking, cycling, cycling or all three), [and] future routes (these are proposed routes that either do not yet exist or need to be developed to meet the required standards).

“Comments and suggestions were considered and maps were prepared for the 12-week legislative consultation.

“The revised map will be presented to the Welsh Government in December 2026.

“We ask you to review the map and give us your opinion.”

Active travel is the name given to daily short distance trips that people make on foot or by bicycle, such as to work, school, college, or to shops and other destinations.

This may also include users of wheelchairs or other mobility aids.

This does not apply to trips that people may take for recreational purposes, such as walking or cycling in rural areas.
