Earlier this year, Netflix announced the cast for the highly anticipated new Harlan Coben thriller The Woods, which reunites the producer with Michelle Keegan following the success of Lie to Me Once. The new eight-episode limited series is an adaptation of Coben’s 2007 novel, which begins with a mysterious disappearance 20 years ago that leaves a family devastated.

When new evidence emerges that convinces lawyer Paul “Cope” Copeland that his missing sister may be alive after all, he begins a relentless investigation to uncover the truth. Former Coronation Street actress Michelle, also known for her role in Brassique, plays the lead role of Lucy Silverfield in the series, alongside Tom Bateman as Paul Copeland.

Woods is currently filming in Manchester and the north-west of England and also stars comedian Tom Allen (Titanic), Mandeep Dhillon (After Life), James Buckley (Intermittents) and Piers Quigley (The Little Prophets). Appearing on Thursday’s (September 10) episode of The One Show, Michelle joined hosts Alex Jones and JB Gill where she spoke about her new role in The Woods.

While she hasn’t confirmed when the drama will air, Michelle said filming will wrap up in a few weeks, so the series’ release could happen sooner than expected. Speaking to Michelle, host Alex said: “Of course, you previously starred in the crime thriller Fool Me Once, which is coming to Netflix. What’s it like working with Harlan Coben again?

“Yes, he is the king of the thriller, he is the best in the game,” Michelle replied. “I was very lucky to work with him and now I’m working with him again on The Forest.”

Alex then asked when the series will be released on the streaming service and added: “Amazing and when can we see it, soon?” Michelle then confirmed: “Well, we’re still filming. We wrap up filming in mid-October, which is next month.”

What is the film “Woods” about?

The Woods was created by Coben, who also serves as executive producer, and written by Danny Brocklehurst. The exciting official synopsis for Woods reads: “Twenty years ago, Paul Copeland’s sister Camille disappeared from a summer camp in the woods, a loss that tore his family apart.

Now a leading lawyer and devoted single father to ten-year-old daughter Cami, Cope appears to have rebuilt his life. But when a man’s body is discovered – twenty years after he was supposedly killed along with Camille – Cope becomes convinced that his sister may have made it out of the woods alive too. Determined to uncover the truth, Cope is reunited with his first love, Lucy Silverfield (Keegan), and together they begin a search for answers while uncovering years of lies. cover-ups and family secrets that threaten to destroy everything he has built.”

While crime drama fans await the release of Woods, Michelle stars alongside Douglas Booth in the upcoming twisty ITV thriller Guilt, which follows the investigation into the murder of a teenage skater.

The series will begin airing on ITV1 and ITVX from Sunday 20 September, meaning the wait is only a couple of weeks away.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
