Traveling for Labor Day? Here are some tips to make it go more smoothly

45 million people are expected to travel over Labor Day weekend, despite rising airfare and gas prices.

AAA Texas reports state gas prices are 92 cents per gallon and airfare is 2% higher than this time last year.

1.4 million people are expected to travel through DFW International Airport over Labor Day weekend. Monday is expected to be the city’s busiest travel day, with more than 256,000 people expected to pass through the airport.

Officials recommend that you arrive at least two hours early for domestic flights and three hours early for international flights. Passengers are asked to plan ahead by checking the airport website for real-time parking availability, security checkpoint wait times and pre-booked parking before heading to the airport. This is in addition to allowing additional time for security screening, parking and traffic jams.

“I’m arranging for one of my relatives to bring me here so you can leave this right at the gate. We always get here two, two-plus hours in advance, and if it’s an international flight, much longer, just to avoid the crowds and avoid the drama,” Shaver said.

AAA urges drivers to leave early to avoid peak periods, monitor real-time app updates and drive safely by avoiding braking, staying alert and changing drivers when possible.
