White House removes anti-immigrant game after Tetris protests

Last week, the White House unveiled a new government website called Arcade.gov, which features five web games promoting President Trump’s agenda. Following accusations of racism and veiled threats of possible legal action, only four of these games are now visible on Arcade.gov.

“Build the Wall,” a Tetris clone that promoted anti-immigrant ideology and urged players to “defend the border against the approaching horde,” is no longer on the Arcade.gov website.

White House launched arcade website last Thursday through a series of social media videos mimicking the opening screens of classic gaming consoles from companies like Nintendo and Sega. All five games featured on the site were knockoffs of games like Flappy Bird.

However, the site’s Tetris clone, Build the Wall, has received the most attention for its virulently anti-immigrant messages.

Just a day later, the team behind Tetris released an official statement, distancing itself from the game and warning of possible legal action.

“At Tetris, we believe in the power of connection and bringing people together rather than dividing them,” Tetris said in a post. statement published on his official social media accounts. “To our fans everywhere, we love you, see you and are grateful to have you in our community.”

“PS Tetris was not involved in the creation of Build the Wall,” the statement reads. “PPS We take copyright infringement very seriously.”

It’s unclear whether Tetris has officially taken action against counterfeiting of the White House puzzle game. However, it appears that this threat scared the Trump administration enough that the game was removed.
