Alaska Airlines flight from Santa Ana to Seattle diverted to Fresno due to “mechanical problem”

SEATTLE — An Alaska Airlines flight from Santa Ana, California, to Seattle was diverted to Fresno Sunday evening due to a “mechanical problem,” the airline said.

Flight 671 took off from John Wayne Airport near Los Angeles at 9:08 p.m., according to flight tracking data.

Shortly after reaching cruising altitude, the aircraft quickly descended from 40,000 feet to approximately 10,000 feet and headed for Fresno Yosemite International Airport.

“Flight 671 was diverted to Fresno (FAT) due to indications of mechanical failure,” Alaska Airlines said in a statement Sunday evening. “The plane landed safely, there were no emergency situations during landing. We are planning to resume the flight [Monday] on another plane.”
