American Airlines flight declares emergency in Las Vegas

In the last 10 to 15 minutes, an American Airlines flight from Monterey to Dallas declared an emergency and diverted to Las Vegas.

American Airlines flight AA2879, which declared an emergency in Las Vegas, is a regularly scheduled flight between Monterey and Dallas.

In addition, aircraft N938AN was involved in the incident.

According to Planespotters.net, N938AN is a 26.2-year-old Boeing 737-800 that was delivered to the airline back in July 2000.

Of the 737-800 variant involved in the Las Vegas accident, American Airlines has a fleet of 303 aircraft, of which 295 are in active service and eight are grounded, with an average fleet age of 16.8 years.

In addition to the 737-800 variant, the carrier’s main fleet includes the following aircraft:

• 132 Airbus A319 aircraft.
• 48 Airbus A320 aircraft.
• 311 Airbus A321.
• 103 Boeing 737 MAX 8.
• 67 Boeing 777s.
• 70 Boeing 787s.

The airline has a total fleet of 1,034 aircraft, of which 999 are in service and 35 are parked, with an average fleet age of 14.7 years, and the airline also flies to Las Vegas.

American Airlines flight AA2879, declaring an emergency in Las Vegas, departed Monterey at 12:36 local time this afternoon and was en route to Dallas.

Near Warm Springs, the plane then veered south and began to descend while issuing emergency code 7700.

The aircraft landed safely shortly thereafter without any further incident.

Cause of emergency in Las Vegas?

At this stage, the cause of the emergency in Las Vegas on board American Airlines flight AA2879 Monterey-Dallas is unclear.

What we do know is that the situation is serious enough to force the plane to divert and land at another airport.
