It’s time to switch to a smartphone that can actually be fixed

The 6.3-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen is more than adequate. It is colourful, clear and bright enough to be read in sunlight. Fairphone’s Adaptive Brightness mode can be a little aggressive, so I often adjust the brightness slider manually, but I have nothing else to complain about.

The battery life of the 4415 mAh battery is not impressive, but you won’t have to constantly run to the outlet. I usually ended most of the day with about 20 percent before bed; This is approximately five to six hours of screen time. It’s a shame there’s no wireless charging, but it’s nice without necessarily being a deal-breaker. Oddly enough, the phone doesn’t come with a USB-C cable (the lack of a charging brick is standard on all phones these days), but the idea is that you probably have one in your desk drawer. Less electronic waste!

The dual camera system with a 50 MP main camera and a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera works reliably. No, Fairphone cannot compete on this front with big tech giants like Google, Apple and Samsung. Low-light scenes suffer the most, with details lost in the shadows – stay still to avoid image blur. Photos from the 32MP selfie camera can also look a little soft. However, it’s not so bad that you won’t use it. You will get quite adequate results, but if you rely hard on your smartphone camera to find videos and photos, you may want to look elsewhere.

Fairphone doesn’t interfere too much with the core Android 16 software, with the exception of Fairphone Moments, which is tied to a yellow switch on the right edge of the phone. Flick the switch and the phone’s interface becomes minimal, offering access to only a small number of apps. You can create your own Moments (up to five apps) to help you focus on the task at hand. For example, if you’re driving, you can flip a switch and it will only allow you to access Google Maps, Spotify, and Phone. It’s a neat system, although its practicality depends entirely on your willpower to use it.
