Slipknot Release ‘ARSENAL’: Masks Are Few, But the Fire Still Burns – Report Spotlight

Few groups have mastered such chaos as Slipknot…And in a year that has seen even more turbulence surrounding the band, including the departure of longtime turntable Sid Wilson, Slipknot back with a simple reminder of why they remain one of metal’s most formidable forces.

ARSENAL is fucking brutal.

From the get-go, the track strikes with that familiar Slipknot combination of crushing guitars, powerful percussion, industrial textures, and Corey Taylor sounding like he has something serious to release. It’s aggressive, dark and incredibly frantic, but there’s more going on here than just cranking up the volume to eleven.

There is a strong Volume. 3: (Subliminal verses) the spirit runs through ARSENAL. Very similar to that era Slipknot Don’t rely solely on speed and brutality. The song has groove, atmosphere and dynamics that allow the heaviness to breathe before crashing back down with full force.

And that’s what makes it work.

Despite all the issues surrounding the band’s current leader, ARSENAL doesn’t look like a band looking back. Sounds hungry.

The track is also accompanied by a cinematic video directed by M. Sean “The Clown” Crahan. SlipknotThe dark visual world has been transformed into something close to a short horror film. The video, starring Jackson White, is suitably unsettling, surreal and atmospheric, complementing the song rather than simply placing the band in front of the camera.

Slipknot always understood that their music is an experience, and ARSENAL continues this tradition.

Perhaps the composition has changed. The questions may continue. There may be fewer masks. But the fire is still there.

ARSENAL is proof that whatever chaos may exist behind the scenes, Slipknot still know exactly how to raise hell when it matters.
