The Bulldogs suffered their biggest defeat in NRLW history before the undefeated Roosters stormed through the final 20 minutes to claim a 42-12 victory at the Sydney Football Stadium. Having entered yesterday’s game in Sydney with just three wins all year and having conceded 178 points with four straight defeats, the Bulldogs led until the 52nd minute but fizzled out when strike center Monica Tagoai was scrapped. Although they were far from their best, it was the 26th consecutive regular season win for head coach John Strange’s Roosters side, who remain on track to reclaim the premiership they lost to the Broncos last year, with their only defeat coming in round five in 2024. The Roosters now face a bye to the top two teams in the first week of the six-team finals format. Despite being huge underdogs, the visitors had the upper hand and it took almost 12 minutes before Otesa Pule crossed for the Roosters and the scoreboard went live. Shortly after, Corban Baxter made a brilliant pass to Jessica Sergis, who ran 40 meters to score her best 15th try of the season. Just when it looked like the floodgates would open, the Bulldogs were back on the field and Tagoai advanced to give her side a four-point lead with 10 minutes left in the half. Seven minutes later, Dogs five-eighth Andy Robinson flew high over Baxter, lifted Tayla Preston’s pinpoint bomb from the air and touched down. Preston’s conversion saw them suddenly lead 12-10 at the break, leaving the cheapest favorites in NRLW history in shock. The Bulldogs remained on top for the first 13 minutes of the second stanza before referee Carra-Lee Nolan tripped Tagoai for a hip fall. Five minutes later Isabelle Kelly, starting her 50th game as Roosters captain, burst through the middle of the Dogs defense and found prop Millie Elliott to help the competition leaders regain the lead. Next on the strip was the Mystery of Nyvidi, and the Canterbury dream was over. More attempts followed from Poulet, Mia Woods, Sergis and Jocelyn Kelleher, with the final result somewhat flattering for the minor premiers. Despite the loss, it was a brave effort by the Bulldogs and coach Braden William in his final game in charge before Mark O’Meley takes the reins in 2027.
