Tailwind Labs joins Shopify

CSS Tailwind and Shopify

Today is a big event – Tailwind is joining Shopify.

When I started working on Tailwind over nine years ago, my only goal was to create something that would make it easier to create beautiful interfaces for my own projects. Fast forward to today, the framework is installed more than 110 million times a week, and is trusted by many of the world’s largest companies to develop products such as ChatGPT, X, Cloudflare, Reddit, and Shopify.

We’re joining Shopify to give Tailwind a stable, long-term home where it will be actively supported for the millions of people who depend on it.

We’ve built a great little website template business around Tailwind over the years, but deep down I always wanted this platform to be designed to serve a real product. A complex application that solves important problems for real people, where we face the same problems as our users and can invent solutions that make the platform better for everyone.

Shopify gives us an incredible footprint to do this work. Merchants should be able to create and host beautiful custom storefronts, as well as manage sales and inventory in a powerful administrative area. Their customers want a great shopping and ordering experience, as well as an intuitive way to track their orders and discover new products through the Store app. Shopify is also at the forefront of where UI needs to go in its research into agency commerce.

Shopify was also one of the first large-scale companies to see the potential of Tailwind CSS and start using it.not only for yourself, but also for your clients. Tailwind is carrier It’s a very important part of the stack at Shopify, and they’re investing in making sure it’s actively maintained, continues to improve, and adapts to how the way we build changes.

In less technical terms, I’m personally excited because Entrepreneurship has completely changed my life.. We as a society are not doing enough to create and empower more entrepreneurs, and I deeply believe in Shopify’s mission to help more people start, run, and grow their own businesses.

Nothing changes with Tailwind CSS or any of our other open source projects.. Everything will always be MIT licensed, and our team will continue to lead and support these community projects with the support of Shopify.

On the commercial side, we will no longer try to develop a business around Tailwind. All existing customers will of course continue to have access to products like Tailwind Plus and ui.sh, but we’re closing registration for new customers so they can focus on Tailwind CSS in Shopify.

A huge thank you to everyone who has created something with Tailwind and supported us over the past nine years. I never could have imagined the project would become what it is today, and I truly believe there is no better place for us to continue this work than Shopify.
