The best restaurants and bars in Sölden

Traditional Tyrolean cuisine abounds in Sölden, be it the simple but hearty cumin goulash soup or Tyrolean soup. Gröstl – grated potatoes and onions with meat and a fried egg on top – or many variations of dumplings. The desserts are a highlight too; fully appreciate the big dish Kaiserschmarren (served as a sliced ​​pancake, sprinkled with powdered sugar and fruit compote), you should skip the main course.

But traditionality isn’t all there is to Sölden’s menu. At the resort, most options are found in hotels, some of which offer very fine dining, while independent eateries include a fair number of pizzerias and Asian restaurants. There are over 30 mountain restaurants on the slopes, offering everything from high-end fine dining in traditional mountain huts to large and impressive cafes.

The nightlife in Sölden is equally plentiful, lively and varied. The city has many bars, pubs and clubs open late and loud, where you can listen to music and dance until the early hours. It rightfully has a reputation as one of the best après ski resorts in Austria. Restaurants at the top of the mountain also host parties in the afternoon, dancing in de rigueur ski boots.

Located on the right at the foot of the red route 11, which descends into the Rettenbach valley from the top of Giegjoch (not to be confused with Gampe Alm, located almost opposite), Gampe Thaya is a lovely old hut with several different cozy rooms. There is also a terrace, bells and hunting trophies everywhere. Owner Jakob Prantl is proud to offer products from his own livestock farm. The food is typically Austrian, including soups with Tyrolean bacon or cheese dumplings, fondue and salads with local cheeses and smoked sausages.
