Royal Caribbean Cancels Spectrum of the Seas Cruise Due to Typhoon Bavi
The July 11, 2026 sailing of the Spectrum of the Seas has been canceled. The four-night cruise was set to sail from Shanghai, China to Incheon, South Korea.

Royal Caribbean made the decision after tracking the storm’s path toward Shanghai. A government closure of the Port of Shanghai Baoshan made it impossible for the previous sailing to return to port on time.
Why Was the Cruise Canceled?
Typhoon Bavi is the reason behind the cancellation. In a letter sent to booked guests, Royal Caribbean explained:
“We have been monitoring the progression of Typhoon Bavi as it slowly moves toward Shanghai. Due to the development of the storm and its impact, and the government closure of the Port of Shanghai Baoshan, the previous Spectrum of the Seas sailing has been delayed returning to port.”
Safety and port access were both major factors in the decision. With the port shut down, the ship simply had nowhere to dock on time.
What Refunds Are Being Offered?
Royal Caribbean is giving affected guests a full refund. Every part of the cruise fare will be returned to the original payment method. This includes pre-paid extras and any airfare booked through Royal Caribbean.
Transportation Reimbursements
Guests who had non-refundable domestic travel plans can get up to $200 per person back. This covers change fees for things like flights, trains, or rental cars.
If you booked international travel, the reimbursement limit is higher. Royal Caribbean will cover up to $400 per person for international transportation change fees. Hotels, flights, trains, and rental cars all qualify.
Future Cruise Credit
As a goodwill gesture, Royal Caribbean is also handing out a $500 Future Cruise Credit (FCC) per stateroom. The exact amount may vary depending on your cabin type.
The FCC can be used on any Royal Caribbean sailing departing through July 11, 2027. That gives guests over a year to plan a new trip.
Royal Caribbean’s Message to Guests
The cruise line expressed regret over the disruption. “We are truly sorry for the impact this has on your vacation plans,” the company said. They added: “We are sorry for the impact that the storm and governmental port closure had on your planned time with us.”
Typhoon cancellations are rare but they do happen. It’s a good reminder of why travel insurance is always a smart idea when cruising in regions prone to tropical storms.
